ADHD reading apps: what do people ask most?
Pick a reading app by where you stall. Recap tools such as Magic Bookmark and Kindle’s Story So Far help you come back to a book; Libby audiobooks and text to speech help you get through it; a timer, a body-doubling session or a Focus mode helps you start and stay. Free options exist for every one of those jobs. None of them treat ADHD.

Questions people actually ask
What is the best app for reading with ADHD?
It depends on where you stall. For coming back after a gap, a page-locked recap such as Magic Bookmark (iPhone, supported titles). For getting through the words, Libby audiobooks or text to speech. For starting, a timer such as Llama Life or a Focusmate session.
Is there an app that recaps a book up to my page without spoilers?
Yes. Magic Bookmark recaps up to your exact page for supported titles, with print, ebook or audiobook, on iPhone. Kindle’s Story So Far does the same inside Kindle ebooks in the US, free with the book.
Is there a Kindle Story So Far for paperbacks?
Kindle’s recap tools only work inside Kindle ebooks bought or borrowed through Amazon. For a paperback, Magic Bookmark works from a photo of your page or the page number, if the title is in its catalog.
Can ChatGPT recap a book I’m reading?
It can summarize, but it does not know which page you are on and can mix in later events or invent details. If you use one, state your exact place, ask it not to go past it, and treat the answer with care.
Should I use audiobooks or text to speech?
For novels, a narrated audiobook is usually more pleasant, and Libby lends them free. For documents, articles and books without audio editions, text to speech: your phone’s built-in read-aloud or Speechify.
Are there free ADHD reading apps?
Libby is free with a library card. iPhone Speak Screen and Android Select to Speak are built in. Speechify’s free plan allows speeds up to 1.5x with 10 robotic sounding voices. Focusmate is free for three sessions a week. Magic Bookmark’s first book is free.
Do ADHD reading apps work on Android?
Libby, Speechify and Android’s Select to Speak do. Magic Bookmark is iPhone only for now, with Android on its roadmap. Kindle’s Ask this Book launched on the Kindle iOS app in the US, and Amazon said it would expand to Kindle devices and the Android app.
Is a subscription or a per-book price better with ADHD?
Per book (Magic Bookmark) or free (Libby) cannot keep charging you through a month you do not read. A subscription (Speechify Premium, Audible) can be fair value if you use it daily. Set a renewal reminder either way.
What about privacy when an app photographs my pages?
Read the App Store privacy label first. Magic Bookmark’s label, for example, lists identifiers as data used to track you, and photos among data linked to you. Decide whether that trade is worth it for you.
Can a reading app treat ADHD?
No. Reading apps can lower the friction of reading; they do not diagnose or treat anything. If reading problems affect school or work, talk to a clinician.
